It’s been a while since I’ve blogged, Couldn’t get into my account and this is somthing that I definitely want to rant about.
At least sane South Africans are angered about these crazy happenings where people are displaced and even killed for being foreign. I’m sorry, the reasons behind these things are not rational.
I just spoke to a friend of mine who saw the dire situation in Mozambique this weekend and agrees with me that a lot of people in South Africa actually DON’T want to be educated so they can have better lives, they expect things to fall in their laps – and that we don’t actaully realise how much we have to be grateful for. The government has put structures where one can get free tertiary education, but these things are not looked at. The youth in our country, especially want everything to turn out like in 50c and R. Kelly music videos, and all those other people who I realy dislike and claim to be making music, when they don’t know the first thing about it.
Look, I know there are complex issues that need to be addressed here – it is not as simple as x = y. But there is no need to hurt our African brothers and sisters. There is no need at all, a lot of them actually come here and create their own enterprises and give jobs to South Africans who have had more opportunities than them, all their lives. So how do they take away our jobs again?
Then there are stupid people who say that the government is now pointing guns at “our people” and that’s not the solution… what would their reaction be if the tables were turned? I say, bring on the army… this foreigner thing is only the beginning, this is actually going to escalate to a class issue, you’ll be the one killed next. I can’t see how people can be without feeling in this way and not realize what poverty, these people come from and they’ve come here for a better life.
I’m not denying that there are Nigerian drug lords, but there are many South African crooks as well, and if you think you’re safe from your own people…. think again.
Summit TV had a great interview with Jerry Vilakazi where he went assessed the situation, seeing how business could help the situation. Follow these links to either read or view what he said. I am truly angered.
